School Admission Policy
Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School (PNJK-IS) will accommodate new, transferees and returning students provided that they abide by the admission policies and meet the institutional requirements. Parents must understand that PNJK-IS follows the curriculum prescribed by the Department of Education (DepEd). Moreover, the school offers Japanese Language (Nihongo) as part of its curriculum along with the other prescribed academic subjects, thus, this is required from Preschool up
to Senior High School. Furthermore, the school sets its institutional requirements in admitting Foreign Students.
In general, applicants must:
The school reserves the right to refuse entry based on the result of the entrance examination, a poor report from his/her previous school, or inappropriate behavior during the assessment. Moreover, the school reserves the right to refuse admission for those who have insufficient and/or unacceptable enrollment documentary requirements. Lastly, a student is considered officially enrolled only after he/she has complied with all the enrollment documentary requirements and has made an initial payment of school fees.
ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
All applicants must first undergo entrance examination and interview with the Department Heads. They need to submit certified true copy of recent report card from their previous school for screening and evaluation and pay the entrance examination fee. Entrance examination fee is non-refundable. The school reserves the right to deny application should the documents presented are found to be unsatisfactory and/or the slots in the grade level are no longer available.
Please take note of the following:
- PNJK-IS entrance examination starts in the middle of February.
- Schedule will only be given after the receipt of the certified true copy of recent report card and payment of the entrance examination fee.
- Entrance examination schedule will be given based on the available dates and time of the school’s screening personnel.
- Results of the entrance examination shall be given within the day or after all the processes and requirements have been made and complied with.
PROCEDURE

ADMISSION POLICY FOR NURSERY, JUNIOR KINDER AND KINDERGARTEN
Philippine Nikkei in Kai International School accepts Kindergarten learners in accordance with the guidelines set by the Department of Education. As stated in Item VI.15.A of the enclosure to DepEd Order No. 47, s. 2016, as amended by DepEd Order No. 20, s. 2018,
“Age qualification for Kindergarten learners in both public and private schools should be five (5) years old by June 1 of
every calendar year. However, the school may consider learners entering Kindergarten who will turn five (5) years old by the end of August on the condition that the Philippine Early Childhood Development (ECD) Checklist must be administered to the
learner prior to the start of the opening of the school year, to ensure that the learner is capable of meeting the expectations of the grade level. Parents may provide documentation and/or certification of the learner’s previous Early Childhood Education (ECE) experiences (i.e, preschool, day care, pre-Kindergarten) in addition to the results of the Philippine ECD Checklist”.
Moreover, the school offers NURSERY AND JUNIOR KINDER LEVELS with the cut-off age requirement:
Nursery : The applicants should be 3 years old by 31 st of August in their year of entry.
Junior Kinder : The applicants should be 4 years old by 31 st of August in their year of entry.
ADMISSION POLICY FOR GRADE 1
For the incoming Grade I pupil, the applicant must have undergone and completed the Kindergarten education from a school recognized or authorized by the Department of Education before allowing him/her to take the entrance examination and be enrolled in the Grade I level.
ADMISSION POLICY FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS & STUDENTS WHO STUDIED ABROAD
Applicant must be represented by his/her parents and/or legal guardian (those who are related by blood to the applicant). He/she must first present original Report Card and/or School Transcript (translated in English) before entrance examination application will be accommodated. The school may require additional school credentials should the documents presented are found to be unsatisfactory. The school shall have the discretion to accelerate its pupil to a higher Grade/Year, or conversely to lower Grade/Year, depending upon the subsequent performance of the pupil in the school, as stipulated in the DepEd Order No. 26, s. 1994.
In addition to admission documentary requirements set by the school, Special Study Permit (SSP) shall be required before a foreign student will be enrolled (as per BI Foreign Admission Policy). Please see SSP documentary requirements.
STUDENTS WITH LIMITED KNOWLEDGE IN ENGLISH
Incoming high school students (JHS & SHS) who are found to have limited knowledge and skills in English will be required to attend the Intensive English Program for Foreign Students (IEPFS) during the period set by the school before they will be accepted as regular students. The IEPFS is given during May and June, thus, applicants are highly encouraged to come to school earlier than May. Parents and guardians must also understand that there is a separate payment for the IEPFS and is not included in the enrollment fees. Preschoolers and elementary students are exempted from this policy.
ADMISSION DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS
Having passed the entrance examination and undergone interview with the Department Heads, the applicants must comply with the admission documentary requirements set by the school. The school satisfied with the applicants’ compliance with the admission documentary requirements, they will be allowed to process the enrollment and pay the necessary school fees. The school reserves the right to refuse admission for those who have insufficient and/or unacceptable admission documentary requirements.
A. LOCAL STUDENTS
1. Admission Slip (issued from the Student Development Center after passing the entrance examination and interview with the Department Heads)
2. Original Report Card bearing the Learner’s Reference Number (LRN)
3. Certificate of Good Moral Character
4. Photocopy of PSA Birth Certificate, 2 copies
5. Copy of Certificate of Kindergarten Completion (for incoming Grade 1 learners only)
6. Three (3) pieces of 1×1 identical ID picture with red background
7. Education Service Contracting (ESC) Certificate for those who are ESC grantees from their previous school
For Nursery, Junior Kinder, and Kindergarten:
1. Admission Slip (issued from the Student Development Center after passing the entrance examination and interview with the Department Heads)
2. Photocopy of PSA Birth Certificate, 2 copies
3. Preschool, Day Care, or Pre-Kindergarten record (if there is any.
B. FOREIGN STUDENTS
1. Admission Slip (issued from the Student Development Center after passing the entrance examination and interview with the Department Heads)
2. English translated recent school records (Report Card, School Transcript, Certificates, Diploma etc)
3. Photocopy of English translated birth certificate, 2 copies
4. Three (3) pieces of 1×1 identical ID picture with red background
5. Photocopy of passport’s bio-page and latest stamp of arrival and authorized stay
6. Special Study Permit (SSP)
SPECIAL STUDY PERMIT (SSP) DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS
The parents or guardians of foreign student must comply with the SSP documentary requirements and submit them to the Registrar’s Office:
1. Duly accomplished CGAF or SSP Application Form (available at the Registrar’s Office)
2. Original passport
3. Photocopy of passport bio-page and latest admission with valid authorized stay
4. Three (3) pieces recent 2×2 colored photograph with white background
5. Certificate of Acceptance (to be requested at the Registrar’s Office)
6. Parent’s/Guardian’s photocopy of PH passport or any valid IDs
7. SSP Fee
8. I-card (if available)
9. BI Clearance Certificate (this will be secured at the BI Office during application)
*10. Letter request addressed to the Commissioner from the representative of the petitioning school
*11. Photocopy of BI school accreditation ID of the registrar or school representative
*will be prepared by the school
As per Bureau of Immigration (BI) policy, only an accredited School Representative will be allowed to transact in their office for the SSP and VISA extension applications.
ADMISSION POLICY FOR LATE AND TRANSFER-IN ENROLLEES
The school shall accept late and transfer-in students on a case to case basis. The school considers the completeness of documents presented, school records’ report, language ability of the student in case of a foreign student, date of entry, availability of the slots, and others. The request shall be consulted to the Department Heads whether to accommodate or not based on the abovementioned considerations. Should the requirements are not met, the school reserves the right to refuse admission.
ADMISSION POLICY FOR VISITOR STUDENTS
Those who seek enrollment on a visitor’s status, the parent shall make a letter-request indicating therein the length and purpose of his/her child’s stay in the school, subject for approval by the School Administration. The applicant shall follow the same admission procedure and shall pay the pertinent fees set by the school.
Take note that,
“Those who are admitted under visitor status are not registered as regular students of the school,
thus, they are not included in the school official list of students and will not be registered in the Learner
Information System. Moreover, the school is not required to give any scholastic records during their stay in
the school”
RIGHT TO AMEND ADMISSION POLICY
The school also reserves the right to amend its Admission Policy at any time.
